Glamping in Obedin

Glamping in Obedin
The glow of sunrise in Obedin

From what I understand, glamping is when you pack up your stuff then drive somewhere to spend a few days in a not-quite-fully-functioning house surrounded by trees so that you can drink beer and nap in the afternoon. If that's true, then every time we go to Obedin, we are glamping.
But we'd rather not glamp, we'd rather restore Silviu's house to one that's fully-functioning, and to that end, there are a number of repairs that need to be done. On our last trip we took an inventory of said repairs and on this trip we started at the top of the list—the gate and driveway.
At first glance it might seem like an odd thing to prioritize, but the whole area was so overgrown with vines and weeds, we couldn't pull our car inside. Parking in the bushes on the side of the road was already cumbersome enough with just our suitcases, but we knew it would be worse with all of the tools and other supplies we're going to need for the repairs. Thus, it went to the top of the list.
This is how it looked when we began.

Big piles of old tree cuttings had to be removed. The gate in the background is almost half covered in vines
We began at sunrise but soon enough, the sun started to make itself felt
The gate was finally liberated, then it was on to the driveway
We had to rely on memory to figure out where the path was buried

The heat was actually advantageous because for one thing, it forced us to take a break which our aching muscles really appreciated. Also, since the shower doesn't work and the bathroom sink is only semi-functioning, we had to use the garden hose to bathe, but we were so hot the cold water felt perfect.
After an alfresco bath, we went to the city for lunch. Since there's not really a functioning kitchen, we eat all of our meals in Craiova but this time we didn't mind that at all. When you're exhausted from hoeing and shoveling, the last thing you want to do is wash a bunch of dishes.

we leaned heavily into the french fries for most meals

After lunch we went home to nap because, with no air conditioning, there's nothing else you can do in that heat. Once evening came and the yard was in the shade, we started up again.
We gave ourselves three days to complete the project, but ended up finishing in two, which gave us a time to take Silviu to lunch and then work on a couple of cleaning projects before we headed back home Wednesday evening.

end of day 1
end of day 2
someone "helped" by stealing our water bottles, tool belts, gloves...whatever he could get his paws on. He's a very, very sweet dog so I couldn't hold any of it against him.

All in all, it was a successful trip, but we're glad to be back in cool, clean, quiet Viștea de jos.
If you have a laborious repair project to tackle, I hope the weather isn't too hot or, even if it is, I hope you can treat yourself to a nice meal and congratulate yourself for completing it.
Thank you for reading. Be well.
