Familia mea

After 30 years of waiting, my sister finally visited Romania.
In all fairness to her, she's not a long-distance traveling enthusiast, and as anyone who's ever traveled to Eastern Europe knows, there is no quick and easy way to get here. So I understand why it took 3 decades. But since we're here more or less permanently, and since our parents were already coming, it seemed like a good idea for her to coordinate with them and make the trip at last.
In an effort to keep things really mellow and not exhaust everyone, we spent the first night in Bucharest so they could rest up a bit more before making the 4.5 hour drive to our house. Afterward we limited the excursions to every other day so we could rest and regroup in between. Even at that moderate pace, we've packed in quite a bit. Instead of droning on with all of the little stories, most of which don't make sense out of context, I'll just share the visit in photos.

rooftop bar in Bucharest
jazz trio in Bucharest
an evening walk in the neighborhood
my favorite bookstore in Sibiu
making coffee at home
hanging out with Nicu and Anca
Sighișoara
the famous (or infamous) Romanian dessert papanași

Admittedly, traveling is much easier here than it is in Craiova because we're so much closer to our favorite cities, but it's still surprising how much you can do and see while maintaining a reasonable pace.

Are you at a time in your life where you need to take things a little slower? You don't need grand journeys. Stopping by a coffee shop you've always wanted to visit could be this week's quiet little adventure. Even a peak through the nearest window can grant you a front-row seat to the golden wonder of these autumn days.
Thank you for reading.
Be well.
